Entry 2: listening

Macro skill: listening.


Age of the students: 6 years old.


Topic: present simple routines.


 Performance indicator:

  • The students will retain chunks of information in short-term memory.


Description of the activity: The teacher is going to make 2 groups of students and choose one leader for each group. Then, the teacher is going to tell the leaders one phrase related to routines. After that,  the leaders have to retain that information and pass it to their team that is going to be forming a line. The last student has to say the same phrase that was told to the leader at the beginning. Each group will be gaining points to have a winner. 

Materials: Board and markers.

Time: 20 minutes.

Steps: 

  1. The teacher asked students to stand out and make a line.

  2. Then, the teacher divides the group taking one student to the right and another to the left, and so on.

  3. After all, the teacher will have two groups one on the right and one on the left.

  4. The teacher selects one student in each group. That student is going to be the leader   

  5. The teacher asks both leaders to go outside with him because he is going to give the students a phrase, and the students have to pass it to their teams.

  6. Both teams have to form a line.

  7. Once the students are formed, they are going to pass the information one by one.

  8. The last student of the line has to report the phrase the teacher gave to the leaders.

  9. If the students say the exact phrase, the whole team gets a point.

The phrases will be like:
  1. My cousin wakes up at 5:00 in the morning.
  2. My mother reads books, magazines, and newspapers.
  3. My sister cleans the bedroom, living room, tables, and sofas.
